ACE Supported Protocols

ACE provides application-specific performance analysis based on over 700 application and network decodes, including support for Wireshark/Ethereal.

This page outlines the list of protocols that ACE supports in addition to the decodes provided by Wireshark. Decodes of these protocols requires ACE Standard, ACE Plus, or the ACE Decode Module. ACE integrates with Wireshark; the currently supported version is Wireshark 0.99.5.

Citrix (ICA)
  • Supported versions -- MetaFrame XP, MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0, and Presentation Server 4.0.
    • Citrix can be deployed over any number of transport protocols, but the decoder only supports ICA over TCP (port 1494 by default) or ICA over CGP over TCP (port 2598 by default).
    • The entire Citrix session must be captured (i.e. starting from the TCP connection open) for the decoder to work
    • Citrix offers several levels of encryption. Currently, we only decode the "basic" encryption.
DB2
  • Support SQLAM Level 7 or higher
  • Support DB2 v8.1 to v9.1
  • Does not support encrypted data
  • Does not support UNICODE or Mixed-byte code
FTP
  • Supported versions -- All FTP implementations consistent with the IETF specification.
    • Enhancements to FTP for IPv6 are not supported
    • Requires use of the External Decoder
HTTP
  • Supported versions -- HTTP 1.0 and HTTP 1.1.
MS SQL
  • Supported versions -- MS SQL 7, MS SQL 2000, and MS SQL 2005
  • NOT supported -- Sybase. Although MS SQL Server and Sybase use the same protocol (TDS), they use different versions of TDS.
NFS
  • Supported versions -- NFS 2.0 and NFS 3.0
    • Requires use of the external decode
  • NOT Supported -- NFS 4.0, security/authentication, and record locking
Oracle
  • Supported versions -- Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i
SMB/CIFS
  • Supported versions -- Windows client and server versions from Windows 2000 onward.
    • Also supports CIFS 1.0 compatible clients and servers, like Samba. Samba versions > 2.0.
    • Requires use of the External Decoder
SOAP
  • Supported versions -- SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2.
SSL
  • Supported versions -- SSL v3.0 and TLS v1.0 (also known as SSL v3.1).
    • Only non-ephemeral RSA CipherSuites are supported. This includes:
  • 1 - TLS_RSA_WITH_NULL_MD5, 2 - TLS_RSA_WITH_NULL_SHA, 3 - TLS_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_RC4_40_MD5, 4 - TLS_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5 (Most commonly used), 5 - TLS_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA, 6 - TLS_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_RC2_CBC_40_MD5, 7 - TLS_RSA_WITH_IDEA_CBC_SHA, 8 - TLS_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_DES40_CBC_SHA, 9 - TLS_RSA_WITH_DES_CBC_SHA, 10 - TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA, 47 - TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA, 53 - TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA, 96,97,98,100 - export ciphers, which are rarely used
VOIP
  • Supported protocols -- SIP, RTP, and RTCP
  • NOT supported -- Cisco Skinny, H.323 protocols
