Determining Database Disk Space Requirements:

Database disk requirements vary depending on the number of enabled metrics, the level of event activity, and the duration of historical data stored.  For each enabled metric, OPNET recommends reserving 3MB of disk space to store a month of historical data.  The following table shows required disk space (in GB) for various combinations. (Note: By default Panorama is configured to store 3 months of historical data).

Recommended disk space (in GB) for metrics storage
  Months of History
Enabled Metrics 1 3 6 12
5,000 15 44 88 176
10,000 29 88 176 352
15,000 44 132 264 527
20,000 59 176 352 703

Processer, Disk, and Memory

A dedicated system is required for the Panorama Console. The Console can be installed in configurations where the database and the console are installed on separate systems, or combined on the same system.

Minimum System Resources

RAM3 (GB) Free Disk Space (GB) CPU1,2
Panorama Console (SMP) 2 10 Windows and Linux: Pentium 4, Xeon, or compatible, 2.4 GHz or better
Solaris: UltraSPARC T1 CPU - 1.0 GHz or better
Database 2 50
Combined 3 50

Recommended System Resources
RAM3 (GB) Free Disk Space (GB) CPU1,2
Panorama Console (SMP) 2-4 10-50 Windows and Linux: Pentium 4, Xeon, or compatible, 3.0 GHz single CPU, 2.4 GHz dual CPU, or better
Solaris: 1.5 GHz UltraSPARC IIIi CPU or better
Database 4 100-700
Combined 4-6 100-700

NOTE:
1 The Panorama Console (SMP) will not operate on systems with the Intel Itanium processor.
2 A dual processor configuration is recommended if the console and the backend database are to reside on the same system.
3 Panorama performance will improve with more available memory as the total number of collected metrics increases.

Panorama Maximum Configuration Guidelines

Samples per Minute Enabled Metrics per SMP Enabled Metrics per Collector
(Managed Node DSA)
1,500,000 25,000 20001

1 Enabling more metrics will cause the DSA to use additional CPU and memory resources.

NOTE: These guidelines are based on tested maximums using available lab system configurations. Larger SMP and Database systems, in terms of processors, RAM, disk drives and space, may be able to support larger numbers of enabled metrics and additional Managed Nodes.

User Authentication

Supports the following methods of user authentication and management: Local
