Automatically Generating Network Diagrams with NetMapper

(4 hours, Web-Based)

Scchedule and registration

Level: Introductory

Prerequisites

- Basic understanding of Layer 2/3 networks

- Basic understanding of networks and network management platforms

- Familiarity with Guru, Sentinel, or OPNET Modeler

Description:

Network engineers and administrators need to maintain up-to-date diagrams of their networks. The diagrams are typically created manually and are required for planning, design, troubleshooting, and network auditing. Creating diagrams manually is time-consuming, and the diagrams are often obsolete before they are completed.

NetMapper is a new module that lets you generate Microsoft Office Visio diagrams representing different network views including Layer-2/3 topology, logical protocol configurations (e.g., OSPF and EIGRP), and logical configuration of devices (e.g., the VRFs configured on routers). This session demonstrates the use of NetMapper to generate consistent and detailed network diagrams. Through the labs you will learn the end-to-end workflow, available templates, and settings to generate network diagrams automatically.

Agenda:

  • Pitfalls of manual diagramming processes
  • Features and benefits of NetMapper

  • Configuring and using NetMapper to generate network diagrams

  • Automatic diagram generation using Sentinel

  • Best practices to create diagrams of production networks

  • Troubleshooting NetMapper
